Ann and Bryan Nordford, now in their early seventies, have been married for well over fifty years, and have over a dozen children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ann has a political science degree and Bryan is an architect and pastor. Now both retired and living in western Canada, they write to the issues of the day, with particular emphasis on the need for maintaining stable and secure marriages for current and future generations of children.

Happy Together: Daily Insights for Families from Scripture is for young adults considering marriage or married with young families who have limited time and theological background. It is written in a readable devotional format covering fifty two weeks of the year and creates a daily teaching tool from Genesis to Revelation. Information gained incrementally over a long period of time tends to be better absorbed. Identifying with these scriptural examples of marriage, family and conflict, will improve maintain happy family relationships. Happy Together will help families develop the joy that marriage promises.

Guest Speaker Ron Dart
Ron is a university professor, mountaineer, and author. Dart teaches in the Department of Political Science, Philosophy and Religious Studies at the University of the Fraser Valley. He has authored over thirteen books that deal with the interface between literature, spirituality and politics.

The 5 and 2 will be facilitating these monthly discussions on urgent social justice issues.

All are welcome to come and dialogue on the most pressing issues of our community and beyond.

Christine Magee has lived a life of music since age five through her piano, flute, guitar, and vocals. Her journey through school bands/choirs, piano competitions, studies with the Royal Conservatory, obtaining a Bachelor of Music degree at UBC, singing and touring with the University Singers, and serving at her church as a worship singer/pianist/keyboardist and band member, has prepared Christine for her current career as a private piano, guitar, vocal teacher, at her in-home music studio. Christine has been writing poetry most of her life but began serious lyric/music composing in 2002. She draws musical inspiration from artists such as Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, Alicia Keays, Christina Aguilera, and Evanesence.

The Steve Delamar Band consists of four seasoned veterans led by singer-songwriter Steve Delamar who has been making music longer than he cares to remember.

This eclectic band draws on a wide range of musical influences, playing both original and traditional Gospel Music.

Ron Janzen's mission is to encourage and comfort people through song, word, and deed. He travels around the globe and partners with other leaders, pastors, missionaries. and organizations who reach out to a hurting world with God's love.

His lyrics reflect his personal journey with God using catchy rock tunes embedded with truth and love. Sure to stir you and warm your heart and provide personal worship.

Acclaimed songwriter Brian Doerksen will be joining us in our Coffeehouse to read from his new book, "Make Love, Make War" and to perhaps sing a few songs as well.

In his readings, Brian will share the stories and inspirations behind some of today’s most acclaimed songs of worship. He believes that God is calling us to both love and to battle, to spread peace and wage spiritual warfare. We do this through how we live, how we serve Him, and how we protect and fight for what matters most. For Brian, music was his answer to this provocative call.

Simon Hoskyn is an Edmonton born singer/songwriter who got his musical start playing in punk metal band JUST STAY CALM for five years. He was also writing solo acoustic stuff on the side and was encouraged by his friends to record it. He released his debut solo album Arrest Me in January 2005 and later moved to New Zealand for a year where he wrote lots more acoustic stuff. He returned to Vancouver with a new album and continues to perform in local house concerts, universities and coffeehouses. He released The Seen and Unseen on August 20th, 2006.

Isobelle Gunn is named after an historic Scottish/Canadian woman who disguised herself as a man in order to work in a man’s world. The group often sings from different voices – male and female, and are beginning to disguise themselves in different narrators for each song.

The sound of the name Isobelle Gunn suggests a contrast between beauty (Isobelle) and pain (Gunn). This juxtaposition reflects the vision of their writing; singing of pain through the lens of redemption. The group performs and develops this new material in their acoustic live shows.  They invite you to come out if we're in your area so we can meet and share in music together!

An evening of great family entertainment, with a country theme is being presented by Cedar Valley Mennonite Church in Mission on July 12. The event is open to the public and features the JC Celebration Band in a tribute to Johnny Cash, barbecued smokies and burgers on the grill.

Participants can wear their country best, cowboy hats, books, vests and kerchiefs. It all starts at 4 p.m. at 32840 Janzen Ave., just off Cedar Valley Street, on July 12.

The Gaither Vocal Band got is start in the early 1980s with four guys singing around a piano backstage before a Bill Gaither Trio concert. Gary McSpadden, Steve Green, Lee Young and Bill Gaither were just having fun, harmonizing on “Your First Day in Heaven” when Bill decided they should try out their new sound on a live audience that very night. The audience went wild… and that impromptu performance marked the beginning of an era.
